Arbitron, Clear Channel Reach PPM Accord

Clear Channel Radio has signed on the dotted line with Arbitron to use its Portable People Meter audience ratings system in 46 markets.

Clear Channel is Arbitron’s largest radio ratings subscriber and represented about 19% of Arbitron revenue in 2006.

The deal includes, which expires Dec. 31, 2011, includes all Clear Channel stations in markets Arbitron has converted or plans to convert to the PPM ratings methodology by year-end 2010.

The agreement also extends until 2011 the current contract for diary-based radio ratings in those markets covered by the deal that have not been converted to PPM radio ratings before the end of 2008. The current diary agreement with Clear Channel also expires in 2008.

MediaAudit/Ipsos, meanwhile, says its still committed to a comparison test, pitting its smart phone technology against the PPM.
