XM Satellite Radio now has a way to get its radios in any auto make or model. XM has teamed with Audiovox, which markets vehicle entertainment systems and other CE products, to offer a dealer-installed XM radio system to independent auto dealers. The company says the Audiovox XM radio system is compatible with any factory-installed audio system because it adapts to the existing AM/FM radio. Therefore, consumers can get XM’s services through any independent new or used car dealer not already offering XM as a factory-installed feature. The Audiovox system costs $399 installed for most vehicles. Audiovox has relationships with 500 expeditors that service 10,000 independent auto dealers.
Tom Malone, Audiovox Electronics Corp, Senior Vice President, said, “Audiovox supplies radios to a wide variety of auto dealers selling various automotive brands and has already produced thousands of XM car radios, anticipating intense demand for this innovative new entertainment
service.”
