BE, e-Radio Collaborate on RDS, HD Radio

Broadcast Electronics Inc. and e-Radio are partnering to support radio data systems and HD Radio data applications. Using RDS, listeners receive additional information on their radio displays such as song titles, artist names, traffic updates, weather forecasts, and sports scores.
The companies said their partnership joins BE’s RF management experience with e-Radio Inc.’s text service and media delivery applications.
“This joint partnership leverages our expertise and theirs in ways that neither companies could do separately,” stated Ray Miklius, vice president for Studio Products, Broadcast Electronics.
By combining its efforts with e-Radio, BE aims to offer a datacasting solution for RDS today and HD Radio tomorrow. The resulting product is BEs’ Radio Data Dimensions, a new data management software suite to be unveiled at NAB 2004 in Las Vegas.
You can read about the product in Radio World’s March 28 issue.
In addition to RDS eight-character identifiers and 64-character text of title/artists, promotional messages, advertiser IDs, traffic bulletins, and Amber alerts, the software suite also supports HD Radio’s supplemental program channel services such as Tomorrow Radio.
Radio Data Dimensions also provides bandwidth provisions for navigational system data downloads to tuners. All functions and user controls for the software suite are accessible from a Web-browser content management tool.
