New House Commerce Committee Chairman Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, has slated several bill mark-ups for Wednesday, including the indecency bill sponsored by Telecom Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich. H.R. 3717, the “Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act of 2004,” would increase FCC fines tenfold for broadcasting indecent material. The committee will also consider Republican and Democratic resolutions to reorganize committee memberships.
