Clear Channel Radio began rolling out its multicast channels in New York and San Francisco; with Dallas yet to come this week and Los Angeles and Chicago launches planned for Monday.
The 107 stations will also stream the multicast programming on FM-Station Web Sites and executives said HD Radio giveaways and on-air promotions are on tap.
Over the next five days, 25 Clear Channel Radio stations in five markets will turn on their HD2 channels. Within two weeks, another 82 stations in 20 more markets
will light up their multicasts.
In every market, the HD2 multicasts will either complement existing on-air programming or bring new music or spoken-word genres to listeners, Clear Channel said.
With a nod toward up and coming entertainment options such as iPods, iTunes and Motorola’s iRadio, to which Clear Channel Radio is contributing content, President/CEO John Hogan told reporters: “We are no longer just in the business of tall towers and big deals.”
He pledged to announce more delivery methods later this year.
