Copyright Royalty Judges Publish Notice of Intent to Audit Broadcasters

Sound Exchange will look into Beasley, Greater Media, Saga Communications, Univision and Townsquare Media activities

SoundExchange has announced plans to audit several radio broadcasting companies.

As stated in issue 135 of the Federal Register, the Copyright Royalty judges have received notices of intent to audit the 2012, 2013 and 2014 statements of account submitted by Beasley Broadcast Group Inc., Greater Media Inc., Saga Communications Inc., and Univision Communications Inc. Additionally, the CRJ has received the 2013 and 2014 statements of account submitted by Townsquare Media Broadcasting concerning royalty payments.

On Dec. 23, 2015, SoundExchange filed five separate notices of intent to audit these broadcasters for the specified periods.

Each were submitted pursuant to The Copyright Act, title 17 section 112, which says prior to conducting the audit SoundExchange must first file a notice of intent to audit a licensee and deliver the notice to the licensee. Additionally, Section 380.15(c) requires the judges to publish notice in the Federal Register within 30 days of receipt.
