At the Radio Festival in Salford, U.K., the BBC’s new Director of Radio Helen Boaden asserted her belief that mobile phones should come with digital radio pre-installed, according to a BBC online article.
Boaden’s urging comes as the European broadcast industry is in negotiations with mobile handset manufacturers over the issue of installing digital chips as standard. DAB receivers are already present in some phones.
Additionally, the BBC’s Radio 1 has broken ground in digital realm by hiring its first “social media DJ.” The service’s 1xtra also plans to order its own social media digital media.
Controller Ben Cooper explained, “We employ DJs to talk to our audience, communicate with our audience, relate to our audience.”
