Ford and Lincoln Mercury will begin offering Sirius as a factory-installed option this month with some 2006 models. They include the Ford Explorer, Mercury Mountaineer, Lincoln Mark LT and the Ford F150.
The factory-installed Sirius system will cost $195, including a six-month Sirius subscription. A Ford executive called satellite radio “the fastest growing consumer electronics product today” in the announcement.
Sirius radios will arrive at the dealership pre-activated, allowing the dealer to demo the service in cars, and allowing consumers to access the service right away when they pick up their new cars.
Earlier, Ford and Lincoln Mercury had said they planned to target up to 21 vehicle lines for factory installation of Sirius over the 2006 and 2007 model years.
