AAT Acquires U.S. Arm of Kathrein

Steve Wilde’s latest acquisition includes the Scala product line

American Amplifier Technologies LLC has acquired Kathrein Broadcast USA Inc. including its Scala portfolio.

AAT, based in California, was founded by CEO Steve Wilde in 2008. It makes broadcast and industrial electrical products.

Kathrein Broadcast USA, headquartered in Oregon, manufactures antenna systems and components for radio and TV broadcasters as well as special purpose applications. It is the successor of Scala, an American antenna provider established in 1954 and acquired by Germany-based Kathrein in 2000.

Terms were not disclosed.

This is the latest in a series of growth moves by AAT and its sibling company SWE Services. In 2023, AAT acquired Shively Labs and announced a partnership with System Engineering Solutions.

The transaction was finalized on Aug. 21. Kathrein Broadcast USA Inc. will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of AAT.

Wilde called it a strategic acquisition for his firm.

“Kathrein USA’s expertise in antenna technology complements our existing operations and will enhance the value we deliver to our customers.”

He made the announcement with Jörg Lippert, designated CEO of Kathrein Broadcast GmbH.

Lippert said, “This step strengthens our global presence. AAT has been familiar with the U.S. markets for years and can position our products there even more effectively. At the same time, we are building on a close sales partnership with AAT ensuring the Scala product line remains available worldwide.”
