Ted Hand Will Be Next SBE President

He succeeds two-term incumbent Andrea Cummis

Headshot of Ted HandTed Hand will be the next president of the Society of Broadcast Engineers.

SBE has announced the results of its 2023 national board elections. Hand, currently vice president, ran unopposed. His term will begin Sept. 28 during the SBE National Meeting.

He succeeds two-term incumbent Andrea Cummis. A president can only serve two consecutive terms.

Hand is a member of SBE Chapter 45 Charlotte (North Carolina) and an SBE Fellow Member. He has served on the national board several times and has been vice president, treasurer and secretary. Hand holds five SBE certifications: CPBE, 8-VSB, AMD, ATSC3 and DRB. He

“I look forward to working with the officers, board and SBE membership to further the goals of the society, including the SBE education and mentoring efforts, which are important to me,” he said in a statement.

“I also want to keep the SBE on the forefront of RF spectrum protection.”

The incoming vice president will be Kevin Trueblood, the current treasurer. Jason Ornellas will take over as treasurer, a role he has held once before. Geary S. Morrill was elected secretary.

The following were elected to two-year terms; incumbents are marked with an asterisk:

  • Terry Douds; Chapter 52 Central Ohio
  • Brad Humphries; Chapter 45 Charlotte, N.C.
  • Zhulieta Ibisheva*; Chapter 50 Hawaii
  • Charles “Ched” Keiler*; Chapter 53 South Florida
  • David Ratener*; Chapter 16 Seattle
  • Jeff Welton; Chester, NS

They join six directors who have another year remaining in their terms:

  • David Antoine; Chapter 15 New York City
  • Greg Dahl; Chapter 96 Rockford, Ill.
  • Mark Heller; Chapter 80 Fox Valley, Wis.
  • Tom McGinley; Chapter 16 Seattle
  • Shane Toven; Chapter 43 Sacramento
  • Fred Willard; Chapter 37 District of Columbia

The national meeting will be held in conjunction with the Midwest Broadcast and Multimedia Technology Conference in Columbus, Ohio.
