Michael Uhl Joins StoryLeaders

Longtime equipment salesman focuses on sales training

Veteran equipment salesman Michael Uhl has joined StoryLeaders, an organization that describes its mission as “helping people influence change” through the science of selling.

He joins the company as an “affiliate,” an independent rep.

Uhl most recently was account executive with the Telos Alliance family of companies, where he’d worked for 5-1/2 years. He previously was at Sierra Automated Systems. He started in the radio industry 34 years ago this month, working for Jack Williams at Pacific Recorders & Engineering.

“I’ve had a wonderful career selling radio equipment,” he told Radio World in an email. “From the very beginning, I knew that my own success hinged on connecting with people. I always tried to relate at a human level with the people I was selling to, but I didn’t really know what I was doing. I had a hunch it was about relationships, but I often struggled to connect.”

Uhl said he recently attended a StoryLeaders workshop that “transformed my approach” and that he hopes to share this with others in radio.

StoryLeaders teaches “the science of selling through emotional connection and the power of story-telling.” Potential customers include radio sales managers and account execs, as well as those who work for companies that sell equipment and services to stations, though Uhl emphasized that it is appropriate for anyone who wants to influence change.

Uhl will attend the spring NAB Show, his 35th. He said colleagues can reach him via email to mju.1955@gmail.com.
