Nielsen Reportedly Conducting Layoffs at Former Arbitron

If so, changes not unexpected

Nielsen is reportedly laying off some staff at the former Arbitron Columbia, Md., facility.

It’s not clear how many people would be losing their jobs, nor how many are full- or part-time positions. As many as approximately 1,000 people work in the Columbia, Md., facility.

When asked for a comment, Nielsen said in a statement, “As part of the integration of Nielsen Audio, Nielsen is implementing changes across the company to enhance growth and to align our resources to meet and exceed client needs. These changes will improve productivity and innovation for the benefit of our organization, clients and shareholders.”

The company had no other comment.

Layoffs would not be surprising, given the probable replication of certain jobs at two audience measurement companies.

In September, Nielsen CEO David Calhoun told investors the company projected some $20 million in synergies from the acquisition. The $1.3 billion Nielsen acquisition of Arbitron closed on Sept. 30.
