From our “Who’s Buying What” page … For Mario Bekes, it was one of the most unusual radio shows he’s ever hosted. For 55 hours and 26 minutes, the Alive 90.5 FM personality, along with a few in-studio guests, just talked to listeners — no advertisements, no music, no call-ins — to break the Guinness World Record for longest audio-only livestream. The record-breaking broadcast began on April 29 and ended May 1, 2023.

The previous record was 53 hours and 1 minute, set by British podcasters Matt Hall and Dan Ramsden in July 2020.

Alive 90.5 is a community station based in Baulkham Hills, New South Wales, Australia, serving the Hill District and parts of Greater Western Sydney.

After the broadcast Bekes thanked the station board and staff for their support and assistance, noting in particular those “working day and night in the studio … to reach this goal.”

A few months before the attempt, Alive 90.5 FM upgraded its studio consoles to AEQ Capitol IP digital consoles. The compact, eight-fader consoles were selected for their ease of operation and the expected improvement in sound quality. Broadcast Components, AEQ’s partner in the region, oversaw the installation and configuration.

Bekes, who is originally from Croatia, began working at Alive 90.5 FM in 2009. In 2019, he launched his podcast “Life: The Battlefield.”
