Federal agents have shut down a pirate radio station in Santa Cruz. About a dozen federal marshals armed with weapons and a court order, along with FCC agents, raided Free Radio’s “home” in a downtown Victorian building, according to the Santa Cruz Sentinel, which also reports some tires on federal vehicles were slashed. The agents confiscated much of the transmission equipment, according to the account.
The FCC previously warned the station that it is illegal to broadcast without a license, most recently when regulators visited the station in May.
