The RAB will honor Roy Shapiro with its Kevin B. Sweeney Award.
The advertising organization named Shapiro, who recently retired as VP and GM of Infinity’s KYW Newsradio 1060 in Philadelphia. The award will be presented to Shapiro during RAB2004 in Dallas next month.
“A 40-year veteran of Viacom/Infinity Broadcasting (formerly Group W Broadcasting), Shapiro is recognized as a leader in the development of the All-News Radio format,” RAB stated. “He assumed the helm of KYW Newsradio 1060 in 1984 and spearheaded the evolution of News Radio with a combination of precise programming, sales, and marketing strategies.
“Under his leadership, KYW Newsradio 1060 consistently set sales and ratings records, earning distinction as one of the most successful stations in the nation.”
Previous recipients are Gordon Mason, Ed McLaughlin, George Wolfson, Wayne Cornils, Bill Burton and Bill Stakelin.
