Telos Alliance said that it will demonstrate new audio “observability” capabilities at the IBC show.
The company said it will highlight “a growing focus across its Media Solutions portfolio on helping broadcasters and media organizations monitor the health, quality, format and metadata of audio as workflows become increasingly software-defined.”
Telos said the concept is increasingly important as media move toward larger, more complex “IP-based distributed, cloud-based, and dynamically orchestrated production and delivery environments.”
It noted that in today’s IP-based contexts, “audio can be routed, processed, transformed and repurposed through numerous applications and services before it reaches an audience.”

It said that many of those paths are created dynamically, and there may be no engineer listening at a given point.
“Audio observability extends monitoring into that environment by continuously examining audio and the information associated with it. Rather than relying solely on manual checks, systems can automatically verify attributes such as format, signal health, metadata, compliance and speech intelligibility across large numbers of audio flows.”
Telos said automated, professional-grade audio analysis is “an essential part of system-wide visibility and control.”
It quoted John Schur, the president of its Media Solutions initiative, in a press release: “As media workflows become more software-defined, we have to rethink what monitoring means. You may have hundreds or thousands of audio flows moving through an infrastructure, and nobody can listen to all of them. The goal of observability is to give engineers useful information about what is happening across the environment, automatically and at scale, so they can identify problems before they reach the audience.”
