Quu at the NAB Show

The company will feature "Next Up," a new tool to help stations grow TSL

Planning for the 2025 NAB Show is in full swing, and Radio World is asking participating companies about their plans and expectations.

Steve Newberry is CEO of Quu.

Radio World: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trend(s) that radio professionals should be watching for at the 2025 NAB Show?

Steve Newberry

Steve Newberry: Technologies available to radio professionals continue to evolve in ways that were hard to imagine in the recent past. AI is the buzzword and is opening up some really interesting possibilities for how radio connects with and serves its listeners.

RW: Your company is active in the metadata management & advertising sector. Briefly, what’s happening within this sector that readers should know about.

Newberry: Radio’s competition is no longer the station down the street, it is the avalanche of audio options now available in autos and on other listening devices. Each of those new options include a strong visual/metadata experience and radio cannot be lagging behind.

RW: Quu has been very busy since the last NAB! I see you launched a Content Partnership program and Quu Visual Network. What has the response been like to those new tools?

Newberry: We could not be more pleased with the reception Quu has received from the new product lines we have introduced. Quu is committed to providing a great listener experience and revenue opportunities for radio stations. In today’s climate, broadcasters need technology that provides solutions for both.

RW: We know Alan Jurison also recently joined your ranks — how’s has he been settling in?

Newberry: Alan has been a great addition to our team. He understands the challenges and opportunities for both the individual broadcasters and the industry as a whole. He works directly with Joe Marshall, who leads our Technical Success team and they are an incredibly powerful team.

What I’ve enjoyed most about Alan joining Quu’s efforts are the conversations that seek immediate opportunities for radio, while charting a long-term winning course for radio. It’s very exciting.

RW: What will be your own most important product news or exhibit topic?

Newberry: We will be introducing our “Next Up” product feature. For years, programmers have requested the ability to preview the next song the station will be playing as a tool for TSL improvement.

“Next Up” enables radio stations to build TSL by informing listeners of the next song that will play on the station. With 25 seconds remaining on the current song, the screen display will identify what song is coming up. This screen shot was taken during the final seconds of a Brad Paisley song playing on the air, but let the station’s listeners know Keith Urban’s song Straight Line was next.

The Jacobs 2025 Techsurvey indicated that identifying what the next song to be played will be is one of listeners most wanted features on the dashboard. Quu has been beta testing this feature to great response, and I’m really excited that we will be showcasing that brand new feature at NAB 2025. It’s another feature unique to Quu and another way to give radio’s listeners an even better experience.

RW: How is this product different from what’s available on the market?

Newberry: To my knowledge, it is a brand new feature that has never been offered before. That’s about as different as we can make it!

Quu will have a suite and welcomes scheduled appointments. It also will exhibit in the booths of Nautel and Xperi.
