Sirius is selling a marine weather data service that features on-demand access to detailed weather info for boaters.
Its Marine Weather Service will be available first over Raymarine E-Series navigation displays.
The satcaster says this is the first time it is integrating a data information service into marine electronics products. The signal reaches “hundreds of miles off the U.S. coasts,” according to a spokesman.
Using a Raymarine SR 100 satellite weather receiver module, boaters will have forecast information including weather radar, storm tracks, sea surface temperature, wind, surface pressure, wave heights and lightning. Boat captains will be able to view Sirius weather data alongside radar, chartplotter and fishfinder functions, the company said.
Prices range from around $30 to about $100 depending on the mariner package purchased.
