Sirius is making some studio changes to accommodate Howard Stern’s arrival in 2006. Engineer Mark Kalman told RW Online no final plans have been made, but the company is planning the configuration and possible equipment needs for the space now.
The satellite control area has all now been consolidated on a 70 acre parcel in New Jersey serving as the uplink site. The satellite operations moved from downtown Manhatten at the Sirius headquarters in November.
The area of the Manhatten headquarters that used to house satellite operations will serve as both studio and office space for Stern, his co-hosts, and their support team. The space is also likely to need to a high ceiling to support a lighting system for television, said Kalman.
Sirius is also looking to lease space on the first floor of the McGraw-Hill building, Sirius’ headquarters, to build a studio that several of its artists and visiting guests could use, in full view of passerby.
XM renovated an existing studio for Bob Edwards this summer.
