Summit Partners Invests in Wowza

Wowza does streaming infrastructure

Colorado-based Wowza Media Systems has new investment capital as it heads into the NAB Show.

Growth equity investor Summit Partners has made a minority investment in Wowza, a media server software company founded in 2005 that provides infrastructure for streaming live video, video-on-demand, live recording and video chat.

“Summit has deep expertise and a strong track record in supporting rapidly growing technology companies,” said Wowza Media Systems CEO and co-founder David Stubenvoll.

Stubenvoll and CTO/Cofounder Charlie Good remain majority owners. Greg Goldfarb of Summit joined the board. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Summit Partners says it has raised $14 billion in growth capital and invested in approximately 340 businesses in North America, Europe and Asia over the years. That includes many companies in the software, Internet and media sectors.

Wowza Media Systems, whose calling card is “Any Screen Done Right,” will be at the 2012 NAB Show. The company recently announced that it has surpassed 100,000 licensees for its Wowza Media Server software.Organizations including broadcasters, educators, service providers and houses of worship are using the software to stream media to any screen.
