Supplemental HD-R Test Gathering Completed

Harris, NPR and Kenwood presented an initial test progress report from its Tomorrow Radio field tests to the National Radio Systems Committee at the NAB Radio Show in Philadelphia. As previously reported by Radio World, testing was successfully completed at public radio FM stations, KALW, San Francisco, KKJZ, Los Angeles, WETA, Washington, D.C. and WNYC, New York City in mid-September for the project, which aims to determine whether splitting the channel of a station transmitting in HD Radio to create supplemental audio/data channels is feasible and can withstand a mobile environment.
“We’re pleased to wrap up this leg of the project,” said Mike Starling,
NPR’s vice president for engineering and operations.
A full analysis and final report is expected in time for the NRSC’s meeting at CES in January 2004.
