Hispanic-oriented Univision Communications has outlined a new, upgraded music app called Uforia. It is to be “focused on content curation with deep Latin genres,” according to a release.
Uforia will be released formally this summer, featuring exclusive channels, customizable stations with more than 20 million songs, along with a friend-sourcing service where users will be able to not only see what their connections are listening to but also recommend music to them directly.
UCI’s upcoming efforts to reach a broader audience also include premiering new releases from established artists, like the April 26 debut of Marc Anthony’s new salsa single, “Vivir Mi Vida” — and partnering with music industry labels to exclusively premiere songs from up-and-coming artists, like Leslie Grace, the youngest woman to top Latin airplay charts, according to a release from the company.
UCI will also be renewing their agreement with Total Traffic Network, a programming and technology service that delivers real-time local traffic flow and incident information to 3,000 radio and 200 television affiliates, as well as its Internet and mobile partnerships, reaching more than 200 million consumers each week, according to a release. As exclusive traffic provider for UCI, TTN will now offer “24/7 News Source” newswire service to all of Univision’s news and talk-formatted stations.
Mike Haake, senior vice president of Affiliate Sales at TTN, said, “With the Hispanic population in the U.S. growing by over 40% in the last decade, our partnership with Univision Radio will ensure that Total Traffic’s radio network mirrors the diversity of our markets.”
