War’s Benefit to News/Talk ‘Not as Dramatic’ as Last Time

“While the news and talk formats did see some incremental increases this spring — most likely a result of the current war with Iraq – the increases were not as dramatic as those seen following the first Gulf War in 1991/1992.”
That’s according to Katz Media Group, which is out with its latest report on trends in national radio formats.
It analyzed 4,185 radio stations in 285 Arbitron markets.
Other findings: Black and Hispanic formats continue to grow and account for three of the top 10 most popular formats.
Rock formats have seen share erosion except for Classic Hits. The average rock shares have declined 8% over the past decade, particularly in hard-hit AOR. Katz cites fragmentation of the format as one reason.
