Wheeler Joins NAB Radio Board

He occupies Randy Gravley’s old seat

The NAB Radio Board has added Mel Wheeler Inc. President/General Manager Leonard Wheeler as a director. He was appointed by Radio Board Chairman Randy Gravley and fills the seat previously taken by Jim Watkins, who recently retired from WHUR(FM).

In 1979, Wheeler launched his radio sales career. He then co-founded family-owned broadcast business Mel Wheeler Inc. with his father and two brothers. In 1992, Wheeler moved to Roanoke, Va., and became manager of WSLQ(FM) and WSLC(AM). Four years later, he helped Mel Wheeler Inc. acquire and develop six FM stations and an AM signal and two stations operating via HD2 translators.

In addition, Wheeler is currently president of the Virginia Association of Broadcasters.
