Hard-disk storage provider Glyph Technologies is shipping its GPT50 external/desktop storage drive.
The GPT50 is available in 500 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB and 3 TB sizes. Available interfaces are USB 2.0, FireWire 800 (IEEE 1394b) and eSATA. It is fully compatible Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, 7 and yet-to-be-released 8; Apple OS 8.6, 9.x and 10.x; Unix, Linux and BSD.
The GPT50 eschews a “wall wart” in favor of a standard internal power supply. A temperature-controlled cooling fan offers efficiency and quieter operation. The metal box is 33% shallower than its predecessor, the GT050Q. Pricing: ranges from $199 to $529.
A rackmount kit with ears is available as an option.
