xHE-AAC is the mandatory audio codec for Digital Radio Mondiale and ideally suited for low bitrate streaming services. At IBC2015 Fraunhofer IIS is introducing its ContentServer R6 technology for the encoding and multiplexing of the terrestrial digital radio standards DAB and DRM.
R6 is an enhancement of the predecessor technology ContentServer R5, explains the company. It supports IP based remote control and operation (ContentServer as a Service concept).
In addition, Fraunhofer IIS will showcase the latest in its AAC family of audio codecs — MPEG xHE-AAC.
According to the firm, the efficiency and quality of xHE-AAC can be experienced both via Internet streaming and an off-the-shelf DRM digital radio.
