Plisch and RFmondial Develop DRM VHF Band III Transmitter

It's the first of its kind in the 174–240 MHz spectrum

German manufacturers Plisch and RFmondial have produced a VHF Band III Digital Radio Mondiale transmitter, which the companies said is the first of its kind.

The transmitter was on display at the IBC Show in Amsterdam

The companies were commissioned to build the transmitter after Indonesia requested the DRM digital radio mode for the 174–240 MHz band.

“Indonesia and other countries all around the world have now the equipment available for setting up DRM broadcasting networks in VHF band III,” a release said.

Plisch combined its Medium Power Transmitter 5600/5700 with RFmondial’s DRM modulator/exciter LV5e.

The modulator supports up to 15 DRM FM streams in one 1.5 MHz swath of spectrum. Each DRM stream is capable of individual content and power levels. The multiplexed stream is fed to the Plisch transmitter and then optimized using signal processing algorithms such as crest-factor reduction, linear and non-linear pre-correction.

RFmondial said that its RF-SE DRM signal measurement and monitoring receiver is optimized for VHF Band III.
