Rycote Expands Microphone Suspension Line

New design aimed at large microphones

Rycote, a U.K.-based maker of microphone accessories, feels it has revamped the lowly microphone suspension with its new Universal Studio Mount (USM), the latest member of the InVision line.

Managing Director Simon Davies said, “Elasticated microphone suspensions have remained more or less the same since the 1940s.”

Using new materials such as Hytrel and a different suspension design, called a “lyre,” Rycote claims its USM has up to 12 dB more isolation than the traditional “cat’s cradle” design.

The USM should support any large-diaphragm mic with an 18–55 mm diameter. An optional USM designed specifically for Neumann TLM mics is available.
