HD Radio Helps Formats Return

Stations in San Diego and Vancouver resurrect stations via HD-2 and HD-3

HD Radio transmission capability has helped several formats return to the air lately.

Entercom San Diego and Sunny 98.1 (KXSN) have announced the launch of Smooth Jazz KIFM, 98.1 HD-2, marking the return of Smooth Jazz to the radio after a 6-year hiatus in the area. The call letters KIFM have been synonymous with smooth jazz in San Diego for over 30 years, and Sunny 98.1 is glad to welcome the format back.

OnJuly 3, CHMJ(AM) on730, of Vancouver, British Columbia, was knocked off of the air because of extensive fire damage at their transmitter site, reportsnwbroadcasters.com. The next day it was reported that AM 730 had returned to the radio, this time by way of CFMIs HD-3 signal. CHMJ continues to be available via internet streaming as well.
