Spotify Update Adds Video

Vice Media, ESPN, Turner Broadcasting are among early partners for this initiative

NEW YORK�As part of a broader overhaul, digital music provider�Spotify is�expanding into video by offering clips and other short-form streaming video from an array of partners, including ESPN, ABC, NBC, Comedy Central, Vice Media, and Turner Broadcasting, among others. �

Noting that its music-loving users also like to toggle over to catch up on news, listen to podcasts or watch videos, Spotify said its new platform will also suggest video and audio shows. �

Other Spotify�show/video partners also include BBC Worldwide Entertainment Group; TED; Fusion; CBS Play.it; Epic TV; and Tastemade. �

For its part, Turner Broadcasting said its Spotify partnership will include content from Adult Swim, including clips from Robot Chicken, Aqua Teen Hunger� Force; �and, in the U.S., clips from TBS�s Conan. Additionally, Turner will offer �full episodes from originals such as Black Jesus and Mr. Pickles to Spotify users in the U.K., Germany and Sweden, with more territories to come. �

�This deal reflects yet another opportunity to distribute Turner�s award-winning and highly popular programming to new audiences through a high-profile delivery channel, providing both additional exposure and more consumption of our global portfolio of leading brands,� Turner said, in a statement. �

Spotify, which claims to have streamed out 25 billion listening hours since its launch seven years ago, said its revamped platform will lead off with a �Now� start page powered by a personalized recommendation engine. The new Now platform is being rolled out today to iPhone users in the U.S., U.K., Germany and Sweden, with more markets and platforms to be added �in the near future.� �

Other new features include Spotify Running (music to keep runners motivated), and Spotify Originals, which will include Dance Move of the Day, produced by Amy Poehler�s Smart Girls brand, and curated radio shows from artists such as Icona Pop, Jungle and Tyler the Creator. �
