Verizon Will Launch Gigabit Class LTE This Year

Worked with Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies on the project, which used 4×4 MIMO, 256 QAM and carrier aggregation

NEW YORK The results of a commercial network deployment conducted in Boca Raton, Fla., by Verizon Wireless, yielded downlink throughput speeds of 953 Mbps, approaching the theoretical limit of gigabit LTE, according to this article in rcrwireless.com. Verizon worked with Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies on the project, which used 44 MIMO, 256 QAM and carrier aggregation.

Verizon used Ericssons Radio 2205 supports Licensed Assisted Access, meaning licensed spectrum is bonded with unlicensed frequencies to create a unified, wider channel. Qualcomm Technologies provided a test device based on its Snapdragon 835 platform and integrated X16 modem.

Verizon said it will launch network support for gigabit-class LTE service later this year. The company also recently announced preorder availability of the Moto Z2 Force Edition, a smartphone manufactured by Motorola, using Qualcomm technology to support gigabit LTE connectivity.
