The WorldDAB organization has set the agenda for its annual summit that will be Nov. 19 in Vienna.

The meeting will be at Meliá Vienna, a hotel in DC Tower 1, which is Austria’s tallest office building and a DAB+ transmission site.

The agenda includes a keynote discussion called “Why Radio Wins,” with WorldDAB President Jacqueline Bierhorst, Corinna Drumm of the Association of Austrian Private Broadcasters and Wouter Quartier, head of radio at the European Broadcasting Union. That session will be moderated by Matt Deegan, a DAB+ multiplex operator from the United Kingdom.

“The panel will explore what keeps radio relevant, how broadcast stays at the heart of a multiplatform future and how the industry pays for it,” according to an announcement.

Bierhorst will talk about trials, launches and rollouts in Ireland, Spain, Kenya and Thailand. WorldDAB said about a third of the world’s countries are “actively engaged” with DAB+, noting a call for applications for national multiplexes in Poland and the launch of permanent Automatic Safety Alert broadcasts in Germany.

“Austria’s exciting digital radio market will be a major focus of the Summit. Commercial broadcasters are driving growth with innovative new services, while public broadcaster ORF has launched a DAB+ pilot of Hitradio Ö3,” it stated.

The summit agenda also includes a talk about the Digital Networks Act and an industry push to require in-car FM/DAB+ receiver integration. Another session will explore how governments and regulators can use WorldDAB’s Public Policy Toolbox to support radio.

Radio and YouTube host Julia Nageler will be the summit moderator. The agenda includes an available tour of the ORF Media Campus at Küniglberg.
