AES Prepares Broadcast and Streaming Sessions

The Audio Engineering Society’s annual U.S. show is scheduled to be on the West Coast this year, in Los Angeles, Oct. 9–12.

The show organizers have released a preliminary list of broadcast and streaming sessions:

  • Audio Issues for 4k and 8k Television
  • Facility Design
  • Audio Issues and HTML5
  • Routing Audio in a Broadcast Facility
  • Listener Fatigue and Retention
  • Hear Now/Sound Effects
  • SBE/Troubleshooting and Maintenance of Equipment
  • Troubleshooting Software
  • Compliance with CALM Act/PLOUD
  • The Streaming Experience
  • Telephony and IP Codecs: How to Choose What Is Best for You
  • Understanding Audio Processing — How to Use the Audio Processor
  • MPEG-DASH — What about Audio?

The organizers stress that this is a preliminary list and might change. And, of course, this is not the only track. Other tracks include: studio recording, live sound, game sound, network audio design, sound for film and standards, along with numerous workshops and special events.

Chairman of Broadcast and Streaming Sessions David Bialik said that plans are progressing “to make this year’s show the best ever.” He added, “Bob Orban and Frank Foti will discuss how to use an audio processor, John Storyk and famed producer will discuss designing a facility, Kim and Bill Sacks will discuss troubleshooting and maintenance. There will be sessions on HTML5, DASH, CALM, live production, software troubleshooting, sound effects, listener fatigue and retention, audio routing, plus more to be named later.”

Bialik also noted that SBE Certification exams will be administered as well.

In other show news, the AES still has its call for Engineering Briefs open, until Aug 13. “Engineering briefs are intended to be short verbal talks or poster presentations that will be of interest to AES members,” AES says.
