SSRS Acquires Edison Research

Edison team is kept on under new ownership

Edison Research has been acquired by SSRS, a market and survey research firm.

“Edison joins SSRS with a deep background in election and media research, strengthening SSRS’s expertise in public opinion, election polling, and audience research,” the buyer said in the announcement.

Edison founders Joe Lenski and Larry Rosin will be part of the leadership of SSRS. Other Edison employees will remain on as well, according to an SSRS spokesperson.

“Since 2003, Edison Research has been the sole provider of election day polling for the National Election Pool in the U.S., and has conducted election polls internationally, with projects spanning Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America,” SSRS stated.

“The company is also known worldwide for its influential studies on audio, podcasting and digital media.”

Melissa Herrmann is president of SSRS.

Among the products for which Edison is known is its Infinite Dial series about media-related technologies including digital audio, social media, podcasting and smart speakers, launched in 1998, and its Share of Ear survey measuring all audio in the U.S. The company also does extensive podcast research.

SSRS is in Pennsylvania; its parent is AUS Marketing Research Systems, based in New Jersey. Edison also is based in New Jersey.

SSRS grew from a company launched in 1983 called International Communications Research and a division called Social Science Research Solutions. In 2014 ICR and Social Science Research Solutions were consolidated into SSRS. It also consolidated teams from Survey Technology Research and CENTRIS. In 2019, it added Luker on Trends.
