Newly-released bodycam footage shows the Atlanta Police Department arresting two individuals after they broke into a local radio tower site in broad daylight.
On Aug. 18, officers responded to a burglary in progress call at 2055 Cheshire Bridge Rd NE. The caller, who observed the break-in, turned off the transmitter so police could safely investigate.
While approaching the area, officers found shoes and other items indicating the presence of individuals inside.
Police climbed a barbed wire fence to access the transmitter site while giving verbal commands for the suspects to exit the tower, as can be seen in body camera footage released by the police department Sept. 9.
Two individuals, Joseph Marquis, 61, and Bryan Newcomb, 30, were arrested.
Marquis was found with scales, syringes and suspected Crystal Meth, leading to charges of criminal trespass, destruction of property and possession of a Schedule I drug. Newcomb was charged with criminal trespass and destruction of property. Both were detained, and the tower was cleared of any other individuals.
The police department did not name the broadcast station whose property was involved. AM station WQXI, licensed to Atlanta Radio Korea, has four towers near that road, and there are other broadcast structures nearby.
Police say the investigation is ongoing, and both suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
