Cartoon Voice Hero Saluted

Cartoon Voice Hero Saluted

We wish we could be there to hear the conversations.
Daws Butler will be saluted in an event on July 31 in California sponsored by The International Animated Film Society-Hollywood and Joe Bevilacqua, a radio writer/producer.
If you can hear the voices of Yogi Bear, Quick Draw McGraw and Elroy Jetson in your head, you know the work of Daws Butler.
Guests include Nancy Cartwright, voice of Bart Simpson and Chuckie on “The Rugrats,” among many others; June Foray, voice of Rocky on “The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show” among many others; and Corey Burton, voice of Moliere in “Atlantis: The Lost Empire” and various voices on “Justice League,” “Batman Beyond” and others.
Butler, who died in 1988, was Huckleberry Hound and Cap’n Crunch. He worked with Stan Freberg in the 1950s on “The Stan Freberg Show” and was a teacher to other well-known voice talents.
The panel will perform one of his workshop scripts; rare sound files of Butler performing will be played. Burton and Bevilacqua also will sign a book release “Scenes for Actors and Voices” by Butler.
“This tribute is a long time coming,” Bevilacqua stated.
The event is at the Glendale Public Library. A nominal fee is charged at the door.
