CBS News Radio’s “World News Roundup” will soon celebrate 80 years on the air.
On March 13, 1938, Edward R. Murrow made his on-air debut from Vienna, reporting on the Nazi invasion of Austria for a program anchored by Robert Trout. Other journalists reported live from the field during the 38-minute show.
“World News Roundup” has won six Radio Television Digital News Association’s Edward R. Murrow Awards for Best Newscast in the past eight years, and the program was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 1995, according to the announcement.

In 2018, the morning edition of “World News Roundup” is anchored by Steve Kathan and is produced by Paul Farry. Dave Barrett anchors the evening edition of the “World News Roundup,” which is produced by James Hutton. Previous anchors include Douglas Edwards, Dallas Townsend and Christopher Glenn. The program is also now available as a podcast.
To mark the occasion, the network will broadcast special “programming will explore the first broadcast in 1938, its significance to the history of radio at the time, and how the “World News Roundup” has evolved to remain relevant today,” according to the announcement. “CBS This Morning,” “CBS Evening News With Jeff Glor,” CBSN and CBSNews.com will all commemorate it with reports
