Organizers say nearly 1,000 Christian radio stations asked for help to feed the world’s poorest families in a coordinated effort on March 11.
Compassion International designed that as Global Food Crisis Awareness Day. Its message: “Thousands of children are dying needlessly of hunger every day, and you can do something about it.”
The organization said 27,000 listeners responded by giving $3.1 million, more than three times the goal.
“The way in which these Christian radio stations and their supporters have answered the call to care for the poor is overwhelming,” stated Wess Stafford, president and CEO of Compassion International, in the announcement of the results.
