It’s an effort to reduce health differences affecting minorities through education.
GlaxoSmithKline, ABC Radio Networks and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services are joining in a public awareness initiative called the “Closing the Health Gap” campaign, encouraging people to take charge of their personal health.
“Racial and ethnic minorities are disproportionately affected by many medical conditions, including HIV/AIDS, cancer, heart disease, diabetes and asthma,” said Claude Allen, deputy secretary of HHS. “This partnership and program will provide much-needed information directly to communities of color.”
ABC Radio personality Tom Joyner is slated to host a series of related broadcasts live from U.S. cities in conjunction with local health fairs and other special community events targeting African Americans.
