October will bring a regional broadcast event to Phoenix, under a new name.
The event will be called the Southwest Communications Expo, presented by SBE Chapter 9 in Phoenix and the Arizona Broadcasters Association. It will be held Tuesday Oct. 14 at the Phoenix Civic Plaza Convention Center.
Gerry Grunig is the convention chair; Ed Sutton is chairman of Chapter 9.
Robert Reymont, the seminar chairman, said the SBE will concentrate on expanding and strengthening the technical sessions. An exhibit committee chaired by Bob Ginger will work to expand the exhibit base, according to a press statement. Organizers hope to attract manufacturers of presentation systems, multimedia, imaging, teleconferencing and automation as well as booths of TV and radio broadcast equipment and services.
Session topics will include Arizona’s homeland security issues, a Web portal pilot program for the state AMBER Alert System, the Alternative Broadcast Inspection program, a job fair and the ABA Hall of Fame reception and dinner. Reymont also is seeking additional presentation papers.
