The Alabama Broadcasters Association is celebrating its 80th anniversary with something of a road show.
Instead of an annual conference, ABA is hosting a series of receptions across the state, inducting people into its Hall of Fame and making donations to local charities.
President Sharon Tinsley said, “We began our tour in Mobile in January. Since then, receptions have been held in Montgomery, Dothan and Auburn (see photos). Our next event is Wednesday July 29 in Florence in northwest Alabama.”
The events include broadcasters, community partners, and civic leaders including local elected officials.
Twelve people have joined the Hall of Fame list during this campaign; honorees can be found here.
In addition, the ABA is making $1,000 donations to two charitable partners in each location. The organizations were nominated by local broadcasters.
“From the first event, attendees have been calling these receptions ‘broadcaster family reunions,’” Tinsley told Radio World.
“A number of broadcasters have attended all of the events so far. It has been fun to watch people reconnect with former coworkers across the state. Attendance at each reception has far surpassed our expectations.”
Future receptions will be in Tuscaloosa, Scottsboro and Huntsville, and the series will finish in Birmingham in November.
