Engineer Leonard Kahn has reportedly petitioned the FCC to reconsider its decision to authorize IBOC. According to a broadcast chat group on the Web, Kahn lists several problems with the technology, such as costs for stations to invest in RF equipment and potential interference problems with the AM system.
Kahn has been involved in the development and testing of AM stereo systems for many years. His was one of 5 such systems proposed to the FCC in the 1980s.
With IBOC in the all-digital mode, stations cannot also broadcast AM Stereo.
