Nairobi-based NRG Radio recently began broadcasting, offering its audience both an audio and visual experience.
With Lawo crystal and sapphire radio mixing consoles and R3LAY virtual radio mixers, the new local radio station and audio/video streaming channel uses the tagline “we’re gonna change the way you listen to music.”
NRG Radio’s three IP-based studios feature visual integration for live video streaming to a CDN, social media or other platforms. The project, carried out by systems integrator BYCE Broadcast Systems, involved equipping the three studios, a production room and a central technical area, as well as handling transmission of the broadcast signal.
BYCE Broadcast initiated the project by installing a 12-fader Lawo crystal console with integrated router, plus radio automation software with HD video playout capability and six-channel video mixing in studio one.
The systems integrator then equipped the second studio with a 12-fader Lawo sapphire console, which can be expanded to 60 faders, and configured the third “virtual” studio around Lawo’s R3LAY virtual console.
As part of the project, BYCE Broadcast also assembled a 24-meter mast at the client’s facility to improve transmission via a microwave point-to-point link to the Limuru broadcasting site where an eight-bay omni-directional antenna provides coverage of about 100 km.
BYCE Broadcast provided the station, which is available on 91.3 MHz in the Nairobi area or online, with staff training.
