Say what you will about the economy. In Los Angeles, at least, radio sales are darn good – record-breaking, in fact.
An analysis by the Southern California Broadcasters Association shows that L.A. radio revenue in May topped $100 million. The Radio Advertising Bureau says it was the largest single billing month for any radio market.
“Long perceived as a lead revenue indicator for the radio industry, the Los Angeles market is comprised of nearly 60 stations with a diverse selection of formats,” RAB stated. It is the second-largest U.S. radio market, and the biggest when measured in revenue.
“The fact that Los Angeles generated this unprecedented revenue amount in the middle of the second quarter substantiates our expectations for overall recovery in radio in the second half of 2003,” stated Gary Fries, president and CEO of RAB.
