Longtime radio engineer, air talent and syndicated disc jockey Martin Ashley, aka “Wonder Rabbit,” has died.
According to his wife Lin, Ashley passed on March 25. She said no memorial service is planned, per her late husband’s request.
Ashley began his lifelong career in radio at KJAY(AM) in Sacramento, Calif. At age 17, he worked part-time without pay as a weekend announcer.

“My first paying job was in 1966, for 92 cents an hour at KXOA(AM/FM) Sacramento, where I did 9 p.m. to midnight on the FM,” he told Radio World in 2023.
The rest was history. Over the years, Ashley held a variety of broadcast roles. More notably was his 23-year stint as a station announcer for PBS affiliate KVIE/Channel 6 in Sacramento.
Ashley retired at age 75 in 2023. Radio World wrote a feature story on his life and career. You can read that here.
