PRX Offers In-Depth Podcast Training With CPB’s Help

“Project Catapult” is funded by a $1M Corporation for Public Broadcasting grant

PRX is reminding interested public stations that applications to be considered for its special new 20-week podcast training program are due Nov. 2.

Public Radio Exchange (PRX) is an online marketplace for distribution, review and licensing of public radio programming. Its new educational program is called Project Catapult and seeks to develop a station’s podcasting skills in the areas of technical and content development, cultivating diverse talent, audience engagement and monetization.

The project is funded by a recently announced $1 million grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. That money will cover travel, training and production costs. Training will take place at PRX’s Podcast Garage in Boston and on location at each station.

This is not for a station that’s interested in podcasting only casually. Only five station will be chosen, and taking part will involve a time and resource commitment. A station must submit an idea and description for a station-produced podcast, a list of team members involved in the podcast who will travel to Boston, examples of a past production and engagement initiatives, a trailer or audio sample of the proposed podcast or a past project and a line item budget for a full year of direct costs your station would incur if selected.

Stations are expected to produce at least 20 podcast episodes during the following 12 months of Project Catapult.
