I’m following two big public radio technical meetings that are happening in Charlotte next Tuesday before the NAB Radio Show.

CPB just announced $6.7 million worth of digital conversion grant awards to a total of nearly 90 stations. And it would like to grant more money. To that end it’s sponsoring a meeting to help station manager with their applications. Engineers will be on hand to explain possible projects.

Hal Kneller, now senior manager for business development for digital radio at Harris Broadcast, will speak about IBOC combining methods at the meeting, behind held in the Charlotte Convention Center. Broadcast Electronics will examine HD-R success stories.

NPR is also hosting an all-day meeting on program-associated data at the Westin. Topics include using the data to enhance the listener experience, for security and the latest on European digital radio. BE will discuss program data activities at stations, along with developments in the delivery of data over HD Radio channels. We’ve reported that BE has demonstrated public radio PAD implementations along with PRI and NPR.
