XM, PGA Ink Golf Channel Agreement

XM, PGA Ink Golf Channel Agreement

XM Satellite Radio has locked up the PGA Tour with a long-term agreement that includes the creation of a special golf channel. The companies say the deal gives XM the right to air PGA Tour events, as well as sales and rentals of hand-held portable XM2go radios at PGA tournament courses.
Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem said XM makes it possible for fans to get golf news anywhere, “even in the gallery” at an event. Such events draw 10 million people a year, the PGA Tour claims.
Beginning this summer, the PGA Tour Network (XM Channel 146) will air live tournament coverage each week, plus daily programs for golf enthusiasts. XM is partnering with the programming company PureGolf, Inc. to produce dedicated programs for the new channel.
Fans who attend select tournaments will be able to buy or rent a portable XM2go radio to hear the live coverage at the golf course.
