Best of Show: GatesAir Modernized DAB+ Transmitter Architecture

Efficiency can be increased up to 10 percent, depending on the power level

We are featuring the products that won the Radio World Best of Show Award at the 2025 IBC Show. Winners were chosen by a panel of engineers and RW editorial staff for their innovation, feature set, cost efficiency and performance in serving the industry.

GatesAir said its modernized DAB/DAB+ transmitter architecture, which includes the integration of new transistor technology, increases efficiency for low- to medium-power transmitters.

Efficiency can be increased by approximately 5 to 10 percent, depending on the transmitter’s power level.

A design update that GatesAir revealed at the IBC Show includes new adjustable-voltage supplies that minimize power consumption, featuring software algorithms to manage power supplies. As DAB and DAB+ frequencies can carry up to 18 channels, the transmitter can be configured to optimize bitrates, voltages and more for highly signal-dense frequencies.

GatesAir’s new high-efficiency DAB+ transmitter architecture crosses several production lines, including VAXT, VAX-OP and PMTX-1 outdoor transmitters, covering both air-cooled (from 25 watts) and liquid-cooled models (up to 10kW).

GatesAir’s DAB+ redundancy concepts also support 1+1 redundancy with or without switchover units, feature redundant inputs for switching between networks and support redundant AC/LC cooling.
