Radio New Zealand Chooses Lawo Consoles for Recording Studios

Public broadcaster’s Auckland and Wellington studios will be outfitted with AoIP technology

From our Who’s Buying What page: Radio New Zealand has announced it selected Lawo’s mc²36 MKII audio consoles to anchor its recording locations at Auckland’s Town Hall and Wellington’s Michael Fowler Centre.

In a press release distributed by Lawo, RNZ said it has also chosen Lawo’s associated I/O devices. To support the infrastructure, the public broadcaster selected two Arista PoE network switches. Professional Audio Technology’s Auckland office was appointed by RNZ as the supplier for the project.

The Lawo setup includes a pair of 32-fader mc²36 MKII consoles for each location. According to the release, peripherals for each location include:

  • A__mic8
  • Lawo Power Core devices
  • Arista 710P Cognitive PoE switches

The power cores also serve as MADI and DANTE converters for AoIP technology. The compact, fanless switches will be responsible for the transport of SMPTE 2110-30, ensuring low-latency audio over the red and blue ST2022-7 redundant media networks.

RNZ said a robust, future-proof solution for both live and recorded broadcasts was the goal of a process that involved rigorous A/B testing.

“We are looking forward to installing these new Lawo consoles at our live recording venues, enabling our audio engineers to continue to deliver the high-quality RNZ listeners expect,” Jamie Annan, RNZ’s operations manager, said in the release.

RNZ is New Zealand’s independent public broadcaster, established as a Crown entity under the Radio New Zealand Act of 1995.
